Jasper is a microcrystalline variety of quartz (chalcedony), which contains inclusions of other materials, such as hematite and goethite, which give it opacity and color. There is a great variety of colors and patterns in jaspers, although they are usually found in red, yellow, black and green tones. It belongs to the group of silicate-tectosilicates and its hardness is 7 on the Mohs scale.
