Aragonite is a calcium carbonate very similar to calcite in its chemical composition, although they have different crystallization forms. The raw piece of aragonite has semi-transparent pseudo hexagonal prismatic crystals. It is part of the carbonates, and its hardness is 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale.
