MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The tanzanite is a variety of zoisite with a dark purplish blue color. Its name comes from the place where it was discovered in 1976, in the Mereari mountains, in northern Tanzania.

The tanzanite is characterized by its pleochroism, which allows the mineral to be seen in different colors depending on the position from which it is viewed and depending on the lighting. You can see colors from dark blue, to light blue, gray and purple.

Deposits: Tanzania.
