MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS
The hawk's eye is a blue-grey variety of tiger's eye. It is a variety of quartz that presents the "chatoyance" effect, vertical bands with reflections reminiscent of a cat's eye. This effect is produced by the orientation of the fibrous inclusions of crocidolite it contains.
The grayish-blue color of the hawk's eye is due to the quartz replacing the crocidolite before it had turned into oxide of iron, with which the mineral maintains the grayish blue color of the original asbestos.
Deposits: South Africa, Namibia, United States and Australia.
THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES
The hawk's eye is considered a calming and vigorous stone. It favors vision and intuition and helps settle energies. It is often used in meditation to connect with inner wisdom and also to energize the body.
