MOLDAVITE

MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The moldavite is a glassy green mineral formed from a meteorite impact some 15 million years ago. It belongs to the tectites, a word that comes from the Greek “tektos”, which means "to melt". The tektites were formed when in the impact of a meteorite, the terrestrial sediments melted and were propelled into the air, where when they cooled they turned into glass. Tektites have been found on every continent except Antarctica and South America.

When the tektit has an olive green color, it is the appreciated moldavite, which is considered special due to its low water content, its difficult fusibility and its chemical composition.

The word moldavite was first used in 1836, a term that derives from the city of Moldauthein, in Bohemia (Czech Republic), where scientists first introduced it in 1786. It was also commonly named “Bouteillen-stein”, "bottle stone", due to its similarity.

There is controversy about the origin of moldavite, most theories point to a fusion of materials in a terrestrial impact of a meteorite, this theory would be the most popular. It is also worth pointing out a second viable theory in which a lunar origin is attributed to it, as lunar volcanic structures are found in some of the analyzed pieces, a theory elaborated by the NASA scientist, Dean R. Chapman, among others.

Most of the Moldavites were found in the valley of the Vltava River, in South Bohemia (Czech Republic). In smaller quantities they were also found in the Moravian area, and recently, a few in Austria.

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES

The moldavite is considered a high vibration stone that enhances spiritual growth, perception, wisdom and connection with mother earth. Placed between the eyebrows to meditate helps to enhance vision and interdimensional communication. It favors the opening of the chakras, the cleaning of blockages and the alignment of energy.
