MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The magnetite is a very abundant oxide mineral. It generally forms octahedrons or rhombododecahedrons and cubes, implanted or semi-implanted in varied geological settings. It has great magnetism and is often covered with iron filaments.

It is said that the name of lodestone comes from the Greek shepherd "Magnes", who noticed the attraction that a rock rich in magnetite exerted on the nails of his shoes.

Deposits: Russia, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Sweden and the United States.
