MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The lepidolite mica is a lilac to pink phyllosilicate. It usually forms tabular crystals and normally appears associated with granitic pegmatites. It has a perfect exfoliation, forming thin and flexible sheets.

The lepidolite is the main source of lithium, used for high technology, and also of rubidium, used for rock dating of more than 10 million years.

The name of lepidolite comes from the Greek "lepidos", "sheets", and "lithos", "stone".

Deposits: Brazil, Russia, Canada, Japan, United States, Germany, Sweden, Australia, Madagascar and the Czech Republic.
