MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The Mokaite jasper is a variety of jasper that has spots and veins of different shades of red, pink, brown, white and yellow. The jasper is considered a chalcedony or opaque microcrystalline quartz that contains other minerals that give it color, such as hematite, the goethite or clay. Jasper is sometimes formed together with the agate, the opal or some fossilized material.

The name of jasper comes from the Greek "iaspis", which means "stained stone". Mokaite is the local name given to this type of jasper from the Windalia Radiolarite sediment in Australia. It gets its name from the place where it was found, at Mooka Station, Australia.

Deposits: Australia.
