MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS
The jasper is a microcrystalline variety of opaque quartz. It can present different colors depending on its inclusions, and may contain up to 20% of other minerals. Sometimes it is formed together with the agate, the opal or some fossilized material.
The leopard jasper is a variety of jasper that contains inclusions of different colors: green, orange, brown and yellow. The marks are often spherical (orbicular) in shape.
The name of jasper comes from the Greek "iaspis", which means "stained stone". It is found in hydrothermal veins, in volcanic rocks, and in sedimentary rocks.
Deposits: Indonesia, Madagascar, United States, Brazil, India and Russia.
