MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Danburite is a calcium borosilicate from the group of tectosilicates, of magmatic or metamorphic origin. The crystallization of danburite is orthorhombic, with prismatic crystals ending in dipyramids. It is transparent, with a vitreous luster, is very hard and has little exfoliation, which makes it interesting for carving jewelry.

Danburite is sometimes confused with topaz , with whom it shares crystal symmetry and shape, although they have different physical properties and composition. It is generally colorless, pink or light yellow.

Deposits: Czech Republic, United States, Russia, Switzerland, Japan, Mexico and Myanmar.
