MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Chrysoprase is a variety of < span class="own-inside-link">chalcedony which has a light green color due to its nickel content. It is the most prized variety of chalcedony for its color. Its name comes from the Greek ”chrysos” and “prase”, which means “golden leek”. Chrysoprase belongs to the family of quartz and is a cryptocrystalline mineral, since its crystals are so small that they are not visible.

Deposits: Brazil, Germany, United States, Australia, Poland, Russia and Tanzania.
