The chrysanthemum is a white stone that appears embedded in a dark matrix rock. Its name comes from its shape, which is reminiscent of the chrysanthemum flower. The composition is variable, normally it consists of crystals of celestine, but sometimes this is replaced by calcite, chalcedony and dolomite. In Japan, the chrysanthemum flower is a national symbol associated with the imperial house and is used as a decorative motif.
