MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The cobalt-calcite is a variety of calcite, specifically from the mineral spherocobaltite, which contains cobalt with calcium impurities. It is transparent to translucent and varies in color between light pink and bright fuchsia. It is used to make gems.

Its name comes from the German word "kobalt", which means "goblin" and calcite from the Latin "calx", which means "lime".

Deposits: Germany, United States, Great Britain, Belgium, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Peru, Iceland, Brazil and Romania.
