MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The jet is a variety of lignite that has a high carbon content. It is considered a mineraloid due to its organic origin. Jet is usually formed in rocks of marine origin, from wet wood buried and subjected to high pressure. It is light, black or brown in color and can sometimes contain small bright inclusions of pyrite. Formerly it was used as an amulet and it was believed that powdered jet had medicinal properties and was taken with water or wine.

Deposits: England (Whitby), Spain (Asturias, Teruel), France, Germany, Poland, India, Turkey, United States, Russia, Portugal, Mexico and Venezuela.

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES

The jet is considered a protection stone. It is usually associated with the 1st chakra to root and to enhance the ascending energy of the body. The jet brings stability and balance, promotes mood and self-confidence. Jet is said to help protect business and finances as well.
