MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The angelita is the commercial name of the blue anhydrite from Peru. It is a dehydrated calcium sulfate with a blue-gray hue. It is usually granular or massive, and less commonly in crystal form. The angelita has a chemical composition very similar to gypsum but without the water element. In fact, the name anhydrite derives from “an” and “hydra”, which means “without water”. Angelita transforms into gypsum when exposed to water due to absorption.

Deposits: Peru.
