MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The amazonite is a blue-green variety of microcline, one of the most abundant feldspars. Its crystals are prismatic and usually appear arranged in multiple twins, but it can also occur in a massive habit. The amazonite is characterized by its texture in the form of sheets, called exsolution. It is said that its name comes from the Amazon River, although there are no clear indications of the presence of Amazonites in the Amazon area.
