MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS

The fire agate is a microcrystalline variety of the quartz, belonging to the chalcedony. There are many types of agate, most are banded and are named according to their colors and drawings, the result of the formation processes within the cavities of solidified lava. The fire agate owes its color and iridescence to the inclusions of hematite reddish and brown it contains.

Deposits: United States, Mexico, Czech Republic, India, Iceland, Morocco and Brazil.
