Fire agate is a microcrystalline variety of the quartz group, a type of chalcedony. There are many types of agates, their color depends on the different materials it may contain. The most abundant are grey, although we also find them in yellow, orange, white, blue and brown. The fire agate owes its color and iridescence to the inclusions of reddish and brown hematite contained. In the natural state it usually forms inside cavities of volcanic rocks.
