Xylapal is a fossil wood about 200-250 million years old, belonging to the Triassic period.
It was formed by the trees that were buried underground in the sediments that were accumulating.
In these sediments predominated silica, which together with the action of water was filtered by filling or replacing the cell walls of the wood. In this way the tree or wood remained a mold of ore, in which it is often possible to observe the original tissue of the plant and even the growth rings, as in the photograph of the cross section of a fossil tree trunk.
The presence of iron, copper and manganese present in water and sediments give the xylapal different shades and colors.
