Mineralogical characteristics
Red tourmaline, also known as rubellite, is a variety of tourmaline characterized by reddish, pink or purplish-red tones. It belongs to the elbaite family, which are gem-quality chromatic tourmalines.
Within this same family are other varieties of great ornamental value, such as green, blue and pink tourmalines. Colored tourmalines are usually appreciated in jewelry for their beauty, scarcity and ability to show chromatic variations according to the orientation of light.
Rubellite is distinguished by its dichroism, an optical property that allows different intensities of color to be observed depending on the angle from which the crystal is viewed. This characteristic, together with its vitreous luster and intense color, makes it one of the most valued varieties of tourmaline.
Tourmalines are borosilicates of variable chemical composition, although they share the same crystal structure. Their crystals are usually prismatic, elongated and striated, and they form mainly in pegmatites, granites, hydrothermal veins and pneumatolytic veins.

Therapeutic properties
Red tourmaline or rubellite is traditionally associated with the 1st and 4th chakras, linked to grounding, vitality and the heart. It is considered a stone of intense energy, related to emotional healing, vital strength and revitalization of the heart.
On an energetic level, it is said to help regenerate and balance the body, bringing drive, enthusiasm and greater connection with vital passion. It is also linked to the ability to understand love from a more mature, active and conscious perspective.
Rubellite is used as symbolic support for working on self-esteem, emotional openness and affective expression. Its warm energy encourages inner security, motivation and the recovery of trust in bonds.
On the physical plane, it is traditionally related to the reproductive system and sexual energy. It is said to enhance vital activity and help unblock tensions associated with the expression of desire and emotions.
Like the rest of the tourmalines, red tourmaline is also considered a stone of cleansing, protection and transformation. It is said that its parallel striations act as channels that help transform dense energies and increase energetic vibration.
