Mineralogical characteristics
Blue tourmaline, also known as indicolite, is a variety of tourmaline characterized by its bluish tones, which can range from light blue to greenish blue or deep blue.
It belongs to the elbaite family, a group that includes some of the tourmalines of greatest gemological value. This family also includes pink, red and green varieties, highly valued in jewelry for their color and transparency.
Colored tourmalines are distinguished by their dichroism, that is, their ability to show different tones depending on the angle from which they are observed. This property, together with its scarcity, makes blue tourmaline an especially valued variety.
From a mineralogical point of view, tourmalines are borosilicates of variable composition, although they share the same crystal structure. Their crystals are usually prismatic, elongated and with highly characteristic parallel striations.
Blue tourmaline usually forms in pegmatites, granites, hydrothermal veins and pneumatolytic veins, geological environments where other varieties of tourmaline may also appear.

Therapeutic properties
Blue tourmaline or indicolite is mainly associated with the throat and third eye chakras. For this reason, it is considered a stone linked to communication, inner perception and mental clarity.
On the energetic plane, it helps stimulate and balance personal expression, encouraging more serene, honest and conscious communication. It is also related to inner vision, intuition and the ability to understand situations from a broader perspective.
As a variety of tourmaline, it shares the general cleansing, protection and transformation properties attributed to this mineral group. It is said that its parallel striations help channel and transform dense energies, raising the vibration of the environment and the personal energy field.
On an emotional level, blue tourmaline may support calm, concentration and the expression of deep thoughts. It is a useful stone for those who seek to communicate ideas more clearly or work on trust in their own voice.
On a physical level, it has traditionally been used as energetic support for eye conditions, headaches, dental discomfort, ear pain and inflammatory processes.
