Tektite

Meteorite

Tektite, also written tectite, is a natural glass formed, according to the most accepted theory, by the impact of large meteorites on the Earth’s surface. During the impact, enormous pressure and intense heat melt part of the terrestrial rock material, which is expelled at high speed together with meteoritic remains toward areas far from the crater.

This molten material cools rapidly during its displacement, giving rise to small glassy masses of irregular or rounded shape. Tektites usually display black, greenish, brown or yellowish colors and generally do not exceed a few centimeters in diameter.

The name tektite comes from the Greek tektos, meaning “molten”. Depending on the region where they are found, they receive specific names. Their composition may vary according to the type of terrestrial rock involved in the impact and the conditions of the meteoritic event.

Tektites are distributed across numerous continents and represent one of the geological materials most closely related to extraterrestrial and meteorite impact phenomena.

Deposits

They are found on all continents except Antarctica and South America.

The properties attributed to tektite are related to its meteoritic origin and to the connection between cosmic energy and terrestrial matter. Traditionally, it is considered a stone that encourages mental openness and expansion of consciousness.

It is said that tektite helps enhance communication with higher planes and receive inspiration or knowledge of a spiritual order. It is also used to support energetic balance and harmonize the flow of energy through the chakras.

In different esoteric traditions, it is used as a fertility talisman and as a symbol of balance between masculine and feminine energies. Its energy is associated with processes of transformation, personal evolution and connection with broader dimensions of consciousness.
