Tanzanite

Silicates - sorosilicates

Tanzanite is a variety of zoisite with a dark violet-blue color. Its name comes from the place where it was discovered, in northern Tanzania.

This mineral stands out for its intense blue color with violet nuances, a characteristic that makes it a highly appreciated gem in jewelry. Tanzanite displays pleochroism, meaning it can show different tones depending on the angle from which it is observed and the lighting.

Among the visible colors, dark blue, light blue, grey and purple tones may appear. This chromatic variation is one of the main mineralogical characteristics of tanzanite and contributes to its ornamental value.

Tanzanite is found in a very localized way, mainly in Tanzania, making it an especially singular stone within the group of blue gems.
