Shungite

Carbonates

Shungite is a black, light and matte-looking stone composed of more than 98% organic carbon. It is considered one of the oldest materials on Earth, with an estimated age of more than two billion years. Its name comes from the village of Shunga, located in the Karelia region (Russia), the only place where it is significantly mined.

From a scientific point of view, shungite stands out for containing fullerenes, a molecular form of carbon discovered in 1985. These spherical structures have attracted great interest for their chemical and physical properties, especially in studies related to nanotechnology and medicine. Crystallized shungite, also called elite type, has a higher concentration of structured carbon, while the non-crystallized variety contains a lower percentage.

Its carbon-rich composition connects it with materials such as activated carbon, known for its absorption capacity. However, shungite has a unique natural structure that differentiates it from other carbon compounds. It does not have defined crystallization and is usually found in compact or fractured masses, with a slightly satin luster.

The main deposit is located in Karelia (Russia), where it is extracted for both industrial and energetic use. Its geological singularity and exceptional composition have made it a highly valued mineral in scientific, environmental and spiritual fields.

It is considered that while crystallized shungite contains approximately 80% fullerenes, non-crystallized shungite contains 30% of them. Therefore, natural shungite crystal is usually the most requested option for therapeutic use.

The therapeutic properties of shungite have established it as a recognized protection stone in modern environments. It is considered to help neutralize and reduce the impact of electronic devices, as it protects against electromagnetic waves and part of the electromagnetic fields generated by computers, mobile phones or routers. For this reason, many people place it near electrical equipment or in rest spaces.

On an energetic level, it is used to stabilize the body field, discharge static electricity and support a sense of balance. It is attributed with the ability to absorb dense energies and contribute to the regeneration of the body. Its action is associated with deep cleansing and strengthening of the general state.

In the environmental field, shungite has traditionally been used in water purification, thanks to its carbon and trace element content. It is considered to help improve water quality and reduce certain impurities, similarly to natural filtering materials. It has also been used to improve soils and contribute to land remediation.

Shungite is considered a stone that does not require frequent energetic cleansing, as it is said to maintain its internal balance. Before using it, it is advisable to wash it with plenty of water to remove surface dust. Its stable and protective energy makes it a support for those seeking harmony in technological and urban environments.

Benefits have also been observed in water treatment thanks to its antibacterial properties. It supports water purification and the remediation of land from chemical residues, acting as a fertilizer thanks to its trace element content.
