Chiastolite

Al2OSiO5 Silicates - nesosilicates

Chiastolite is an opaque variety of andalusite that displays a twinned form. Andalusite is characterized by a carbonaceous cross-shaped inclusion, which can be seen when cut transversely. This cross-shaped part is due to the encrustation of impurities around the crystals as they grow.

It usually appears in metamorphic rocks and rarely in granites and granitic pegmatites. The name chiastolite comes from the Greek "chiastos", meaning "cross".
