Mineralogical characteristics
Rainbow moonstone belongs to the feldspar group and is considered an opalescent variety of orthoclase. Its name refers to its resemblance to the moon, and therefore to its glow.
Moonstone displays a surface iridescence with bluish and golden tones called adularescence. This shine is due to the intergrowth of albite and orthoclase lamellae it contains.

Therapeutic properties
Rainbow moonstone has the same properties as adularia moonstone; both represent balance. They are very helpful for calming and balancing emotions and encouraging a state of peace and tranquility. Placed on the solar plexus or chi center, they help create this balance. Moonstone also represents the cyclical nature of the human being and supports emotional, mental and physical balance in processes of inner growth.
It is considered a spiritual stone and enhances the Yin part of people, which Taoism defines as the feminine principle, that of intuition, receptivity and creativity through non-action. It encourages balance between masculine and feminine energies. Moonstone is also known to be beneficial for the female reproductive cycle, for conditions related to menstruation and for balancing the hormonal system.
