Lepidocrocite belongs to iron ore minerals. It forms druses from thin tabular crystals, rosettes and radial aggregates, compact, dense, ruby red to yellow-red in color. It appears together with limonite.
The name lepidocrocite comes from the Greek "lipis", "scale", and "krokis", "fiber", referring to its habit.
