Mineralogical characteristics
Lazurite is the main component of lapis lazuli, where it is well distributed, together with pyrite, calcite and sodalite, and it gives it its characteristic blue color.
Lazurite is a sodium and calcium sulfide aluminosilicate. It normally forms compact, granular and dense masses, and very rarely implanted rhombododecahedra. It usually forms in crystalline limestones through contact metamorphism.

Afghanistan, Chile, Italy, Argentina, United States and Russia.
