Mineralogical characteristics
Jasper is an opaque variety of microcrystalline quartz (chalcedony). It may display different colors depending on its inclusions and can contain up to 20% other minerals. Sometimes it forms together with agate, opal or some fossilized material. Jasper takes different names depending on the colors it has.
The name jasper comes from the Greek "iaspis", meaning "spotted stone". It is found in hydrothermal veins, volcanic rocks and sedimentary rocks.

Therapeutic properties
