Mineralogical characteristics
Fuchsite is a variety of muscovite mica, belonging to the silicate-phyllosilicate group. The greenish color of fuchsite is due to its high chromium content.
It is characterized by its bright reflections. Its cleavage is perfect and produces thin, flexible sheets. In Russia, the largest and most transparent sheets of muscovite mica were used as glass for windows, hence the name “Moscow glass”.
