Staurolite

(Fe, Mg)4Al17(Si, Al)8O45(OH)3 Silicates - nesosilicates

Staurolite is a metamorphic mineral from the silicate group that forms normally opaque, rhombic crystals, reddish-brown or black in color, from prismatic to tabular. Staurolite forms through the fusion of garnet, mica and kyanite, as well as other metamorphic minerals. It only forms under very specific thermal and pressure conditions, which help identify the conditions in which the rock beside which it appears implanted was formed. The name staurolite comes from the Greek word "stauros", meaning "cross", because of its characteristic cross-shaped twinning.
