Mineralogical characteristics
Danburite is a calcium borosilicate from the tectosilicate group, of magmatic or metamorphic origin. The crystallization of danburite is orthorhombic, with prismatic crystals ending in bipyramids. It is transparent, has vitreous luster, great hardness and little cleavage, making it interesting for jewelry cutting.
Danburite is sometimes confused with topaz, with which it shares crystal symmetry and form, although they have different physical properties and composition. It generally appears colorless, pinkish or light yellow.
