Chrysoprase is a variety of chalcedony that displays a light green color due to its nickel content. It is the most prized variety of chalcedony because of its color. Its name comes from the Greek "chrysos" and "prase", meaning "golden leek". Chrysoprase belongs to the quartz family and is a cryptocrystalline mineral, since its crystals are so small that they are not visible.
