Mineralogical characteristics
Chrysoberyl, also called chrysopal or chrysolite, is an aluminum and beryllium oxide of great resistance. It is characterized by its hardness; only diamond and corundum are harder than chrysoberyl. It is usually better known for its prized varieties called alexandrite and cat’s eye, both of which are scarcer and rarer. Chrysoberyl can appear in several colors such as green, yellow, brown, grey and red. It occurs in pegmatites and mica schists.
