Chalcopyrite

CuFeS2 Sulfides

Chalcopyrite is one of the most important copper ores. It is characterized by its metallic and iridescent surface luster. Its name comes from the Greek "khalkos" (copper) and "pyros" (fire). Chalcopyrite usually forms tetrahedral crystals, and although most chalcopyrites are compact, they often form twins. It is usually found in granites and igneous rocks, in pegmatites, hydrothermal veins, tin ore veins and black slates.
