Mineralogical characteristics
Amazonite is a green-blue variety of microcline, one of the most abundant feldspars. Its crystals are prismatic and usually appear arranged in multiple twinnings, although it can also occur in a massive habit. Amazonite is characterized by its lamellar texture, called exsolution. Its name is said to come from the Amazon River, although there is no clear evidence of amazonites being present in the Amazon region.
