Agate

SiO₂ Silicates - Tectosilicates

Agate is a microcrystalline variety of the quartz group, a type of chalcedony in various colors that often displays chromatic bands. There are many types of agates; their color depends on the different minerals they may contain. The most abundant are grey, although they can also be found in yellow, orange, white, blue, brown and pink.

Agate in its natural state is usually found in ovoid or spherical cavities within volcanic rocks. When an agate geode is opened, crystallizations of quartz, amethyst or calcite often appear inside.

Agate is considered a stone of gentle energy, known for bringing harmony and balance. It encourages self-confidence and concentration, and supports spiritual growth, love and courage.

Dark agate is slightly protective. On a healing level, it is said that when placed on the forehead it calms fever, and when placed along the legs it helps eliminate fluids.
